Immigration Advocacy in Practice (In Person Training)

This in-person training is designed to help social workers, counselors, and community advocates build the practical knowledge and confidence needed to work ethically and effectively with immigrant clients and families. Participants will review common immigration statuses, how status can affect access to benefits and services, common myths about immigration, current policy considerations, Know Your Rights resources, legal referrals, and separation and deportation planning. The training will also focus on professional ethics, confidentiality, documentation, advocacy, and the challenges that arise when laws, agency policies, and professional responsibilities do not always align. Participants will apply the material through small-group scenarios based on real-world situations involving immigrant individuals and families.
